The Israel Public Council for Soviet Jewry, is founded

The Israel Public Council for Soviet Jewry served as a national advocacy group for the right of Jews to immigrate to Israel from behind the Iron Curtain. It brought a message of solidarity and support on behalf of Israeli society to Jews struggling to get out of the Soviet Union and reach Israel. For decades, it advocated on behalf of prisoners of Zion, refuseniks, and those yearning to come to Israel. “
